Podcasts are my dream come true. One’s own personal radio station! That hypnotizing buzz of charged air around the microphone; that ability to weave a world for a listener. It’s not quite the immediacy of the guy who’d call my 1980’s FM rock show every week to request AC/DC’s “Back in Black” – but ya puts it out there and have faith in the process.
Just finished listening to comedian Mike Birbiglia’s podcast “Working it Out” which is often rewarding. I feel a trust and empathy for people who share their journey. Tig Notaro’s another stellar example, as is thebloggess.com author Jenny Lawson. That podcast intimacy was just the balm to heal from Covid’s slashing lockdown.
The “Working it Out” episode that aired 2022-05-31 guests Michael J. Fox. Michael’s Internet connection’s a little glitchy and Parkinson’s compounds the difficulty in correctly hearing him, so birbigs.com has a transcript. (Which, immediately downloads… please Web people, just post it on your webpage because, Unexpected Downloads, ulgh.)
If you just admire MJF and want to know more about his Foundation, this is a very good listen. If you’ve got any kind of REM or sleep disorder, you need to know what’s in this episode. If you need to hear a reminder of how pain meds are so willing to ruin a 12-step program – and how to advocate for yourself with perscribers to be safely treated – this interview has got your back.
That last point of MJF’s chat alone, warrants an underscore.
